An AI agent is an autonomous or semi-autonomous artificial intelligence program that automates processes, perceives its environment through sensors (physical or virtual), and acts upon that environment to achieve specific objectives. The main characteristics of an AI agent are its autonomy and adaptability. That is, its ability to make decisions and perform actions without continuous human intervention. Furthermore, it can adapt to new situations thanks to learning and reasoning mechanisms. AI agents can exist in different environments: video games (non-player characters that act intelligently), logistics systems (where they manage transportation routes) or even as virtual assistants that take proactive actions based on rules and data (for example, scheduling tasks in a calendar). Not all AI agents have a conversational interface; some operate "behind the scenes," monitoring data and executing actions (for example, a bot that automatically buys and sells stocks in the market following AI algorithms).
